Notes on the first two films:

Within the scope of the IMPETUS project two short documentary films about the investigation of the resource water and its management in the investigation areas in Benin and Morocco originated. The research approach and the teamwork of different involved sciences all around the subject Water are introduced as well as the work of the scientists in the terrain and in the evaluation.

The Benin film is from 2002, the Morocco film was produced in 2004. Both films are given into languages German, English and French, in each case with subtitles or translations for interviews into French, Arabic, Berber and....

For screenplay and realisation sign the project employees Dr. Hans-Peter Thamm (geographer, Benin project) and Dr. Holger Kirscht (ethnologist, Morocco project) responsibly. The employees appearing in the films introduced other ideas.Then the film production occurred with foreign technical support.

The copyright lies with the IMPETUS project as well as with Hans-Peter Thamm and Dirk Beppler (Benin film) and Holger Kirscht (Morocco film).

The film was produced by Soufian Choutine and Oualid Raja during their studies at the “Institut spécialisé dans les Métiers du Cinéma” in Ouarzazate in 2008 (http://ismc.sup.fr). The authors gave their permission to publish the film on this web site.

In the film, the story of a young Moroccan is told who returns from the football field. He wastes water in different ways, and falls asleep. He dreams of a situation in the countryside where he has to find water for his family. He scans one source after the other. Finally he comes back with his donkey and water. Rudly awaken from this nightmare he becomes aware of the the water wasting at home. Now he is sensitized and shuts off all water taps…

This film made by the young filmmakers in Ouarzazate shows in a charming way the beginning of awareness for environmental issues. The potential of saving water in a houshold is represented clearly. The film suits for an introduction to environmental education.
